Why Made to Order Matters.
Most fine jewelry is made before anyone has decided to buy it. A factory casts a thousand of a popular setting. Stones are matched in bulk. The piece sits in a warehouse, waiting for a finger.
The economics make sense. The result, less so.
A ring made for nobody
Stock jewelry is made to a statistical average. The setting height suits the average finger. The band width suits the average wear. The stone proportions suit the average eye. None of these is your finger, your wear, your eye.
Worse, stock production rewards repetition. The same ten silhouettes spread across ten brands. The shop becomes a catalogue of near-identical objects.
Four weeks of difference
Made to order is slower. We take the measurement of your finger. We source a carefully curated selection of diamonds for you to choose from. We adjust the setting height for the way you hold a coffee cup. We cast in recycled metal, set the stone, and hand-finish the surfaces.
The time it takes, four to six weeks, is also the time it takes for a decision of this size to settle.
Less stock, less waste
Made to order also means we cast no metal that does not belong on a finger. We hold no inventory of stones that were mined to sit in a drawer. We produce only what is needed, rather than holding large inventories of finished jewelry.
Stock is immediate. Made to order is considered. We think the difference is worth four weeks.
